Assessing the Reliability of Student Evaluations of Teaching (sets) with Generalizability Theory

چکیده

This paper presents a Generalizability Theory (GT) analysis of the dependability of measures obtained using the Seevers, Dormody and VanLeeuwen (1998) SET instrument. The analysis of Seevers , et al. (1998) data suggests that both student means and class means are sufficiently reliable measuresfor most purposes. These data are used to illustrate the GT estimation of reliabilities for both student means, involving averaging over items, and class means, involving averaging over both items and students. The use of GT to obtain standard errors for use in interpreting differences in class means is also illustrated and recommendations on the interpretation of class means are given.

Score Generalizability of Writing Assessment: the Effect of Rater’s Gender

The score reliability of language performance tests has attracted increasing interest. Classical Test Theory cannot examine multiple sources of measurement error. Generalizability theory extends Classical Test Theory to provide a practical framework to identify and estimate multiple factors contributing to the total variance of measurement. Generalizability theory by using analysis of variance ...

Reliability of a viva assessment of clinical reasoning in an Australian pre-professional osteopathy program assessed using generalizability theory

Clinical reasoning is situation-dependent and case-specific; therefore, assessments incorporating different patient presentations are warranted. The present study aimed to determine the reliability of a multi-station case-based viva assessment of clinical reasoning in an Australian pre-registration osteopathy program using generalizability theory. Students (from years 4 and 5) and examiners wer...

Journal of Agricultural Education - Vol. 38

This article introduces the application of Generalizability Theory to assessing the reliability of measurements. Generalizability Theory can be used to assess reliability in the presence of multiple sources of error and also can be applied to assess reliability in the presence of different types of sources of error. In particular, the application of Generalizability Theory to measurements invol...

College students’ evaluation of effective teaching: Developing an instrument and assessing its psychometric properties

Students’ evaluations of teaching (SETs) are currently the most commonly used method for evaluating teaching effectiveness in higher education institutions. They aid in evaluating the quality of faculty teaching and provide useful information for administrators, faculty, and students. The majority of SET instruments were developed based on faculty and/or administrators’ knowledge and experience...
